Toya Delazy Claims She Played a Role in Cassper’s Breakthrough

Toya Delazy asserts her role in Cassper Nyovest’s ascent to mainstream fame and success.

Cassper Nyovest stands as a titan in South African and continental Hip Hop, renowned for his string of chart-topping hits and iconic status in the rap scene. Recently, Toya Delazy took to Twitter to highlight her contribution to his journey.

She emphasized the significance of their collaboration on the track “My City,” citing it as pivotal in Cassper’s breakthrough. According to her, she facilitated Cassper’s first flight to Cape Town, where they recorded the song. However, she lamented that her pivotal role often goes unrecognized, attributing it to gender bias.

“If it wasn’t for ‘My City,’ the transition to mainstream wouldn’t have been as seamless. We arranged Cassper’s inaugural flight to Cape Town for our collaboration. Many of us supported his ascent, but our contributions, being women, are often sidelined,” she expressed.

Toya Delazy recounted how despite their collaboration becoming a massive success, Cassper failed to acknowledge her role during his peak moments. “During the ‘Fill Up’ events, my song echoed in the stadiums. Yet, my absence from the limelight deeply affected my career. As a young artist, it shattered me. It took years to recover. Sadly, it remains one of my worst experiences. I wish I had a different narrative,” she added.
