Who Is  Tems?

Temilade Openiyi, professionally known as Tems, is a Nigerian powerhouse in the music industry. Born on June 11, 1995, she has made waves as a singer, songwriter, and record producer.

Tems skyrocketed to fame after her feature on Wizkid’s 2020 single “Essence,” which reached number 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, gaining further attention with a remix featuring Justin Bieber. This collaboration earned her a Grammy Award nomination, solidifying her position as a rising star in the industry. In the same year, she collaborated with Canadian rapper Drake on the track “Fountains.”

In 2020, Tems released her debut extended play, “For Broken Ears,” followed by her second EP, “If Orange Was a Place,” in 2021, after signing with RCA Records.

Tems’ influence continued to grow in 2022 when her vocals from the song “Higher” were sampled by Future on his single “Wait for U.” This led to her being credited as a featured artist alongside Drake, and the song debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, making her the first African artist to achieve this feat. She further made history with her Grammy win for Best Melodic Rap Performance.

In July 2022, Tems covered Bob Marley’s “No Woman, No Cry” for the “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” soundtrack album. Her song “Free Mind” from her debut EP also made waves, debuting on the Billboard Hot 100 and breaking records on the R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart.

Tems’ talent extends beyond her own music, as she co-wrote Rihanna’s “Lift Me Up,” earning nominations for prestigious awards like the Academy Award, Golden Globe Award, and Grammy Award.

Looking forward, Tems announced her highly anticipated debut studio album, “Born in the Wild,” set for release in May 2024. Throughout her remarkable career, she has garnered numerous accolades, including a Grammy Award, Billboard Women in Music Award, NAACP Image Awards, BET Awards, and Soul Train Music Awards, cementing her status as a trailblazer in the music industry.
